We did quite a bit of work on BIRT and eventually came across Workday’s new functionality called Workday Docs. We worked on creating exit letters, offer letters, job changes, promotions, and more, spending quite a bit of time on Docs as well. This led us to wonder: is Workday Docs a replacement for BIRT?
The answer is NO!
Key Observations:
Aggregates, Math Functions, Mapping, and Highlights:
Browser Support:
Workday Docs does not support Internet Explorer, which might be an issue for organizations that rely on this browser.
Visuals:
Workday Docs doesn’t support charts and graphs. For those who want to see compensation change history in graphs or break down salary components in pie charts, this is not possible in Workday Docs but can be done using BIRT.
Codes and Fonts:
Workday Docs does not support QR codes or barcodes and only supports the Roboto font. If a business needs specific fonts, BIRT is the go-to tool as it provides more flexibility with font choices.
Language:
Workday Docs is mainly for layouts in a single language, whereas BIRT can handle more complex multilingual layouts.
Copying or Duplicating Docs:
Need to create everything from scratch if you want to copy content and format to another document in Workday Docs, but in BIRT, you can simply copy and deploy for other documents as well.
In summary, Workday Docs offers a simplified and integrated solution within the Workday ecosystem but falls short in functionalities compared to BIRT, making BIRT indispensable for businesses with more complex reporting and visualization needs.
